2021 Junior World Championships Wrap Up

The CWFHC sent 4 athletes to Tashkent, Uzbekistan from May 23-31.  This was the first in person competition for our Juniors in well over a year. For 3 of the 4 athletes, this was their first international competition. Our athlete’s did not disappoint.  Youri Simard started the team with a 6/6 performance with an 8kg PR finishing 6th overall.  Shad Darsigny followed with a 6kg PR going 4/6 and finishing 10th overall.  Rienna Skelton suffered an injury on her first clean and jerk after a solid 2/3 snatch session that had her sitting in 10th overall.  Our final athlete was Emma Friesen.  Emma went 3/6 and finished with a Bronze medal in both Snatch and Total.  The athletes were coached by Yvan Darsigny through the competition.

Having all of our athletes finish within the top 10 of their weight category is encouraging for the future of our sport in Canada.  We are proud of their individual and team performance during these challenging times. Our Juniors will be on the international stage again in a few months at the Junior Pan American Championships in Columbia.
